How Muslims Should Respond to Donald Trump
I don’t typically post overtly spiritual posts because my audience consists of not only Muslims but plenty of non-Muslims. But the video below is an awesome example of how Muslim Americans should be putting into perspective the current climate of Islamophobia, fear-mongering and fascist idealogy spewing from the GOP front runner, Donald Trump and his supporters.
Muslims and people of conscience and with half a brain cell were shocked yesterday when Trump escalated his anti-Muslim World Tour to levels beyond profiling and wanting me to wear a scarlet letter on my forehead when he proclaimed Muslims should be banned from the United States. This would include allowing me and my children who were born on American soil to be barred from coming home if we were to visit Canada or Mexico or travel abroad. The guy is a nut case, a danger to not only America but the world. We can only speculate about his mental health as we have observed his increasingly xenophobic vitriol on his Campaign Trail of Hate. But that’s not what this blog post is about.
Now is the time for Muslims to decide how we will handle this test of being collectively attacked on the national and world stage. We are being threatened, bullied, harassed and marginalized like never before. This is not new to Muslims in history. Remember the story of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, walking down the street and people throwing garbage on him. His friends wanted to go address these garbage throwers and do some throwing down themselves but the Prophet told his companions to pray for his haters. That’s right – he prayed for his haters and didn’t react in a vengeful manner.
The brother in this video speaks wise words when he tells the Muslim community that we must have patience and remain in a tight embrace with Allah subhaana wa ta Allah right now more than ever before. We also must follow up the negative deeds of the Trump and his sheep with good deeds.
Allah is giving us an opportunity right now to show the world how the Muslim community reacts to vitriol. Let’s show them what Islam is about and let’s repel the evil being done to us with all that is GOOD. This is not the time to passively stick your head in the sand and hope this goes away. Islam is a not a passive deen. Each and every one of us need to be active community members right now. I am talking your neighbors, co-workers, friends in person and online. It’s time to invite people into the warm embrace of our community and show them what Muslims are about.
You gonna let Trump speak for you- my fellow Muslims? Not me! This is sooooo 1,400 years ago. We so got this.
